BackTrax App Reviews

Nice Tool for Theatres

This is a quite good app for those who need an auto cue or auto pause function for their playbacks. Its great that you can use your playlists or titles from itunes! One update idea: For rehearsals, a fast for-/backward function would be great!

Great App

... love it, Im a professional musician playing from pubs to weddings alone with my guitar and Backtrax on my iPhone. Feels great to know it stops at the end of the Song and preloads the next Song so I can relax and enjoy the applause ;) Its great that it shows the lyrics! My suggestions for the future: - scrolling lyrics - fullscreenmode (for the lyrics) - airturn

Great on stage!

This app does exactly what I need it to and nothing more. Perfect! My band was struggling trying to cue backing tracks quickly and accurately with an older iPod nano. This will work so much better. There is only one feature missing for iPhone use - if the phone rings the music is interrupted. Cant risk that live, so my workaround will be to call forward the phone before the set. It would be great if the phone went straight to voicemail automatically while a track is playing (uninterrupted).

Excellent Customer Service

Notified support of an functionality issue after updating to iOS 10.0 not able to drop edit in app once songs are loaded! Responded within two hours and had a fix created and today its done...that was 4 days ago!! BRAVO!!

Time left

Would be nice to see time left till end of track. I use this to determine end of song.

Simple but good

Works like it says but once you exit the app, it clears your lists...am I missing something? Needs ability to save set lists.

Love this app!

My iPhone is now complete. I am a pro drummer working with a number of acts that require backing tracks. This eliminates having to search for a track, que it up, check it and stop it all whilst playing with one hand. I have to wear reading glasses so I would love to see a touch zoom feature to see titles a little larger. Thanks for creating this great little utility.

The perfect app for gigging musicians

Ive searched for weeks, and from my research, this is the ONLY app designed for musicians to simply play pre-loaded backing tracks. No it doesnt do Karoke lyrics, or chord changes (thats what sheet music or memorization is for!), it doesnt do looping or multisampling, but there are other programs out there designed for that. BackTrax is designed for live musicians... that is, people who are going to be busy playing keyboards, guitars, bass, violin, or whatever. It plays back audio files (wav or any type that the iPhone plays), that you create. And for serious instrumental musicians like us, its essentially perfect, easy 5-stars. It just works. Before getting BackTrax, I was using a soundboard app ("Resounder"), which is really designed for playing goofy movie SFX. Problem was, it didnt do well with longer tracks, and had about 500ms latency, which is a deal-breaker for starting a drum track in the middle of a song (like I often do). I even messed up a drum cue live on a gig, and my fiddle player was totally lost. The one caution is that the play button works on "mouse up", which means that it wont start playing a track until you lift up your finger. If youre looking for precision like me, you will want to hold down the button a moment before hand, and then lift it up on the down beat (or whenever you need the track to start). This would be my one suggestion to the developer, to have an option to set the track to play on "mouse down". Until then, though, those who need precision will just have to get by with the hold & release method. The next step will be creating a foot pedal for this thing. If the developer was to do that, they would literally print money.

What the Dr ordered

Ok had a problem with this app but after emailing the developer he sent me the ad hoc version as we wait for his update. I have long wondered why Apple in all its wisdom would not add a stop button to the native music player. Backtrax adds this feature and allows you to use your device to run a music show if you desire. Nice to be able to do that without having to beat the player to the pause button to stop the next song from starting. Well worth the price for people who need this functionality. Why are you still reading this, buy the app! Note: If youre running 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 wait for the fix. It wont run on these devices but Im sure Ryan will get it worked out soon.

Very Nice

Great app, I recommend buying it but It would be nicer if it the Play and Stop buttons were larger and if the timer was larger so you could see while playing when song is going to end.

The app to get if youre a performer and want to use your iphone/ipod for backing tracks

This app is exactly what I was looking for. It would be just about perfect with a few minor improvements... - BackTrax really needs the ability to reorder the song list directly within the app without having to clear, re-order in itunes or in your playlist, and then re-add the songs again. My suggestion would be to add an "Edit" button to allow both deleting and reordering of songs similarly to the way it works in playlists. EDIT: The latest version (v1.7) addresses this issue :) - In addition to the time remaining for the current song, It would also be helpful to display the total time remaining for all the songs in the set so you can keep an eye on how much time is left in your set as each song plays. (Not addressed in v1.7) - I Dont know if it would be helpful to others, but Id sure welcome the addition of a "pause" button. It could be a small unobtrusive button, or a way to pause by double tapping on the current playing song. (Not addressed in v1.7) Ryan added another cool feature in v1.7 that automatically advances the song selector to the next song when the current song ends (Note that it doesnt automatically play the next song, it only moves the highlight bar so the next song is already selected for you to press the play button... Nice) Great job so far Ryan, looking forward to the next update!

Back Trax Review

Having sequenced my backing tracks for close to 22 years I decided it was time to start using my iTouch instead of bringing racks of keyboard gear with me. All playlist apps I tried just did not lend itself to the gigging musician till BackTrax. Grant it I would like to see a few extra features if possible such as the ability to select the song transations 1) Consecutive Play 2) User selected delay between songs, i.e. 5 sec to maybe 1 minute before the next song starts 3) BackTrax default: Current song stops, next song selected waiting play 4) Current song "Loop Mode" till button pressed to play next song. (This is a great feature for fake ad libs in songs) Grant it your song then needs to be multiple MP3s but it can work. Once again, great app!

Live Performance

Used your app with my band to run backing tracks live last night. Worked very well. Thank you for providing such a useful app n My recommendation right now for the iPad is to make the tracks a bit bigger and easier to select in case I need to jump around between sets. Could you consider a grid layout where I can name each "tile" a song? That would make it easier to jump around. Thanks.

Back Trax

Hey mate, good onya, got the program and couldnt be happier. Even my drummer, who is pretty pissed at each gig can work it out. No complaints, but will always look for updates. Cheers Cheet

Review/Request

The app is very close to being perfect for how I use tracks in my performances. Requests: - A button/option that lets you play the tracks sequentially (AutoPlay). I typically play 4 songs on my break and doesnt make sense to have to press play after each song ends. When the break is over you can turn off AutoPlay (if desired). I play the trumpet with backtracks and walk around. Having AutoPlay would eliminate the need to have to walk back to the iPad to press Play each time a new track is loaded. I build 3 hour Playlists that include songs for my breaks. With Autoplay, I would only have to press the Play button at the start of my show! Of course, that assumes I wouldnt have to deviate from the list for special requests! - Landscape mode for when you select a song from your library. This works in another app I have. You stated that iOS doesnt allow that or is not capable. This is not true. - When you press the Home button on the iPad (to possibly switch to another app, perhaps for Lyrics of a song) the music needs to keep playing! I know this is possible. I have another music app that works this way. - Ability to Fast Forward through a song. Perhaps by pressing a button OR pressing on the Slider bar/play head and dragging. Review: Love the app so far but I need the above features to use it in my live performance. Great job, please consider the above features, Im sure others will benefit. Thank you!

Flawless

This app has simplified the use of tracks for my 7 piece band. I operate the iPad from a music stand at the drum kit. iPad goes out to a 2 channel direct box and the right side is the track, the left side is the click. This direct box goes to our LS-9 and the monitor side of the board goes to an Aviom system to feed our in-ear monitors. So, 2 of our 16 controls on our individual Aviom control panels are assigned to the click and track, so we each have adjustments for the Backtrax output. This has been an easy and very functional addition to our show. I have the app on the iPad and on my iPhone as a backup. Greatest addition to our gear since we went in-ear. Great app! Thanks Backtrax!

Good Start

This is a very good start and step in the right direction. We need lyrics lyrics and lyrics. Weve been using the iPhone iPad built in music player which will display lyrics. This app would be better if it also displayed the lyrics already associated with each track. The app works ok as described. It loaded our library and playlist/set lists with no problems. Now add lyrics and Ill gladly give 5 stars and use this app instead. NOTE: the iPad music player under ios5 was redesigned and has a major bug. It no longer displays lyrics. You have a great marketing opportunity here.

Awesome!

I have over 600 midi files that I converted to Mp3s and loaded into BackTrax. I dont know what I would do without it now. Its a great app for me....I work 6 nights week as a solo act (using backing tracks while playing piano and guitar) this app is exactly what Ive been looking for!!! Thanks and keep up the great work.. Soloists Solution

After converting from midi files to mp3s, I tried the iPod player and cant tell you how many times I started the wrong song at the wrong time while scrolling because of the sensitivity of the screen. With the attention being on you as a solo performer, it can be embarrassing to say the least. This app is absolutely the solution for that. The screen stays solid no matter how you tap it and the load function while playing a song is another plus. The fact that you can cue the next song is such a wonderful feature as well. After using Sonar for many years with its lyrics view, Im used to manually putting in lyrics or by copy-paste, so if this would make it easier to add a lyric view to the already user friendly app, it would be a wonderful thing. Great job, guys Gary Jacksonville

Use this App every gig

We use this app every gig. Love the fact that the song stops after its done playing and does not go to the next song. This is a must for a live performance. Would love to see one touch to start next track. Right now we have to stop current track and push button again to start next track. We would like to request a one touch feature.
